Core Program Set Up
Uninstall Virus Scanner if it is a free program that isn’t Microsoft Security Essentials
Uninstall other similar scanners such as Adaware
Uninstall Toolbars
Check Microsoft Updates for updates to the operating system
Do not install Security Updates that affect the Microsoft Genuine Advantage authentication tools
After applying updates, reboot the computer and check for more updates.
Transfer the core files using WinSCP Portable from the Tech Tools launcher to UsersPublicTech
Note: This can be done in background while installing Updates from above
Hide the Tech folder but only apply to folder, not subfolders and files
Copy the DLL files from the DLLSystem32 folder to the System32 in the Windows directory.
Do not overwrite existing files
Install VB Runtimes also from the DLL folder in the Core Setup files
Install Adobe Acrobat Reader
Uninstall all previous versions of Acrobat Reader unless they are purchased or (Pro) versions.
Change installation directory name to “Adobe Reader”
After it is installed go to Options
Under Page Display set the zoom to “Fit To Width”
Under Internet, uncheck “Display PDF in Browser”
Under Updater, select “Do not download or install updates automatically” (Skip this substep if not on service contract and make updates install automatically)
Install full version of GhostScript
Rename default installation directory from Gs to GhostScript
Install Bullzip PDF Printer from the PDF Printer directory in the core
Do not create a quick launch icon or desktop icon.
After install, In the Printer Settings, rename the printer driver to “Save as PDF”
Rename the Options shortcut in the start menu directory to “Save as PDF Options”
Install K-Lite
If the computer is running a 64 bit operating system, also install the
“K-Lite_Codec_Pack_64bit_???.exe” from the x64 subdirectory under the K-Lite directory in the core setup files. But be *sure* to install the 32-bit version *first*. You must install both versions with the 32-bit version first.
Install Extract Now

In Options, configure it in the following manner.

Uncheck Minimize to System Tray
Uncheck turn off all sounds (We want to hear sounds)
Post Extraction
Recycle the archive
Open Folder
Explorer
Associate with all common archives types
enable

show enqueue
show extract here
show extract to folder
Install IrfanView and then the plugins
In Options, configure it in the following manner.
Start / Exit options
Only 1 instance
Ask to save on program exit
Extensions
associate with images only
send to shell menu
Browsing / Editing
turn on loop browsing
Video / Sound
use external player for video/sound
File Handling
jump to next file after deleting moving
don’t display save dialogue
don’t ask to overwrite on save
don’t change directory index after file renaming
Install Flash and Java
from the “Web Components” Folder.
Install both versions of the flash installer
One is for ActiveX browsers the other is for non-ActiveX browsers like FireFox.
If not already installed, install Microsoft Security Essentials
Allow to update
Note: May require a reboot if it refuses to update
In Options, configure it in the following manner.
Under Scheduled Scan, uncheck “Run a scheduled Scan”
Under Default Actions change the actions for
Severe alert level: to Quarantine
High alert level: to Quarantine
Excluded files & locations, exclude the following directories
Program FilesLogMeIn
Program FilesTech Tools
Note: In 64 bit installs of windows those will be in “Program Files (x86)”
C:System Volume Information
Install Skype
from the ”Web Components” folder.
In the install options, uncheck extras and skype toolbar.
Install ZipGenius
Install folder should not contain the version number so make sure to remove it during the install so that it shows as “Zip Genius” not: “Zip Genius 6”
Install FreeCalc
Create a shortcut on the desktop titled “Calculator With Tape” on the profile desktop.
Install Converter
Rename desktop shortcut to “Unit Converter” and copy to the profile desktop.
Install Firefox
Install Thunderbird
Install VirtualCloneDrive
In Options, configure it in the following manner.

Install WinPatrol
Install IDrive
